Schools and other services

The Children and Young People’s Directorate is part of Somerset County Council and provides services for children and young people in Somerset. This includes both schools and children’s social care. The Directorate has a website on which a wide range of information can be found: www.six.somerset.gov.uk

Within the Children and Young People’s Directorate, there is an Equalities & Diversity Team. This team provides support to schools to help them meet the needs of pupils from minority ethnic groups. This includes pupils learning English as an additional language. The team aims to help children and young people from all backgrounds achieve their best. The team website includes links to documents which have been translated into community languages these links can be found at www.six.somerset.gov.uk/equalities/

Somerset also has a Parent Partnership Service. This service offers independent information, advice, guidance and support for parents/carers of children with special/additional educational needs (SEN/AEN).
The service is available to all parents of children with SEN/AEN including very young children, when a cause for concern is first raised.
