Whats On
South Somerset District Council's Housing Options Team is available to give advice, and take action, to help find the right housing solution for all members of the community. Our aim will be, wherever possible, to keep you in your current accommodation. If you have to move, we will assess your housing options and give you advice and assistance to secure alternative accommodation.
The Housing Advice Centre in Yeovil is home to the Council’s Housing Options Team. The Team comprises staff who specialise in the prevention of homelessness, links with private rented sector landlords, the Housing Register and Welfare Benefits. The Centre is shared with other agencies. The Somerset Polish Community Association runs a surgery here on Tuesdays between 12.00 and 3.00pm, and the Portuguese Link Worker is here on alternate Thursday and Friday afternoons. Please ring for details.
Council Staff at the Centre have access to translation services, but you may also receive some help from the Polish and Portuguese link workers. The Centre is also home to the South Somerset Accommodation Scheme. The Scheme gives advice and assistance to homeless single and childless couples. Please contact the Scheme to see if you qualify for a Bond (deposit). You can contact the scheme direct on (01935) 462770.
A separate Council service is "Housing Standards" (which is part of "Environmental Health") and deals with any problems relating to conditions within the property. Click on the link to the left marked "Housing Standards" for full details of the service.
